Pool of London (1951)
Pool of London (1951), Basil Dearden's Ealing drama, follows two cargo-ship seamen ashore in postwar London who are drawn into a smuggling racket of jewel thieves, murder and a manhunt. Bonar Colleano and Susan Shaw star, with Earl Cameron as the romantic lead, a casting of a Black actor the Archive calls bold for its time. It screens in the season Great Expectations: British Postwar Cinema, 1945–1960.
