Shuhao Li of Stony Brook University speaks at MIT's Symplectic Geometry Seminar. Symplectic geometry grew out of the phase spaces of classical mechanics, and its modern tools, among them Floer homology and pseudoholomorphic curves, now reach into low-dimensional topology, mirror symmetry and string theory.
