Distant Light
Martin Chalifour, principal concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, is soloist twice: in Peteris Vasks's Distant Light, the Latvian composer's 1997 concerto for violin and strings, and in Bach's Violin Concerto in G minor. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 and Grieg's From Holberg's Time, the suite he wrote in 1884 for the bicentenary of Ludvig Holberg's birth, complete the programme, which Steven Lipsitt conducts.
