They Made Me a Fugitive (1947)
Alberto Cavalcanti's They Made Me a Fugitive (1947) stars Trevor Howard as an unemployed ex-RAF pilot who drifts into the postwar black market and is framed for the killing of a policeman. The critic David Thomson found this British noir by the Brazilian-born Cavalcanti “filled with malign eccentricity.” It screens on DCP in Great Expectations: British Postwar Cinema, 1945–1960.
