ChemE Dept. Seminar: New Perspectives on Large Amplitude Oscillatory Shear Rheology
Joseph Peterson, assistant professor of chemical and biomedical engineering at UCLA, presents new work on large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS), a reproducible way of measuring how materials respond to unsteady, nonlinear flow. Looking at entangled, shear-thinning polymer melts, he develops a framework for parallel superposition rheology that yields a general stability criterion for shear banding, then extends the analysis to Kelvin waves in two-dimensional LAOS flows.
