Arline Geronimus coined the term 'weathering' for the physical toll that systemic racism and class disadvantage take on the body. Her book Weathering: The Extraordinary Stress of Ordinary Life in an Unjust Society draws on more than thirty years of research to argue that how a society treats people shapes their health and ageing.
