Above and Beneath: An Ode to Women Artists
Detritus dance performs Conversations: Above and Beneath, a roaming, site-responsive dance installation modelled on Margaret Fuller Ossoli's “Conversations,” the 1839–1844 gatherings of Boston women denied formal education. It traces writer Fuller, poet Maria White Lowell, actor Charlotte Cushman, sculptor Edmonia Lewis and historian Hannah Adams, with stops at gravesites, the Hygeia Statue and Hazel Dell. The queer, women-led company was founded in 2021 by Caroline Bradbury and Claire Lane.
