When Ireland Saved Boston: The Irish Donation of 1676
Historian Trent Taylor marks the 350th anniversary of the Irish Donation of 1676, when a ship from Dublin laden with oatmeal, butter and cheese saved thousands of lives in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, and traces how the gift strengthened Irish–New England ties in the Puritan world. It was repaid in 1847, when Captain Robert Forbes reached Cork with famine relief. A dram of Irish whiskey accompanies the talk.
