Managed retreat — deciding not to rebuild, and moving people back from the coast — is among the most contested ideas in climate adaptation, and it challenges the assumption that every shoreline can be defended indefinitely. The talk uses real cases from Massachusetts and elsewhere, and takes the equity questions head on.
