Lectures on Tap — Sniff Test: A Police Dog and the Fourth Amendment
Dan Breen, Professor of the Practice of Legal Studies at Brandeis University, tells the story of Frankie, a drug-sniffing dog that Miami detectives brought to a suspected marijuana grower's front porch in 2006. The alert led to a warrant and a conviction, and to the question of whether the sniff was itself an unreasonable search; the case reached the Supreme Court as Florida v. Jardines in 2013.
