Kate Culkin: Emerson’s Daughters
Kate Culkin discusses Emerson’s Daughters, “a biography of a sisterhood” and the first full-length study of Ellen Tucker Emerson and Edith Emerson Forbes, who served as their father’s secretaries and editors and helped shape his posthumous image. Culkin, a professor of history at Bronx Community College, is the author of Harriet Hosmer: A Cultural Biography; the new book was long-listed for the Plutarch Prize.
