Time’s Second Arrow: Evolution, Order, and a New Law of Nature

· · 24 Oxford Street · · ·

Robert M. Hazen, a staff scientist at Carnegie Science's Earth and Planets Laboratory, proposes a new law of nature under which minerals, stars, living things and even languages grow more varied and complex over time, a “second arrow of time” alongside thermodynamics' drift toward disorder. He is co-author of Time's Second Arrow; his The Story of Earth was a finalist for the Royal Society science book prize.
