touristic intents: Faculty Film Screening
Mat Rappaport’s 2021 documentary touristic intents looks at mass tourism and political ideology through Prora, the four-mile Nazi resort on the Baltic begun in 1936 to house 20,000 vacationers. Left unfinished, it served East Germany for military training and the forced labor of conscientious objectors, and is now being turned into apartments and hotels. Rappaport, a Tufts film professor, discusses it afterwards with Matthew Okazaki, who teaches architecture history.
