Matt O’Hara discusses The Flying Death: Poison, Plunder, and the Quest for a Miracle Medicine in the Amazon, which follows Richard Gill, a frail American explorer who went down an Amazon river in 1938 in search of curare, the blow-dart poison that later transformed surgery. O’Hara is professor of history at UC Santa Cruz and author of A Flock Divided; Boston College historian Sylvia Sellers-García joins him.
