PIER Public Seminar: How Private Tutoring Centers Impact Student Achievement and Education Inequality

· · · 13 Appian Way · ·

Joshua Goodman of Boston University presents newly published research, written with Kitkin, on private tutoring chains such as Kumon and Sylvan, which have expanded rapidly in recent decades. The study asks which families use these centers, and how the opening of a district's first chain center affects district-wide math and reading scores and racial achievement gaps. Harvard's Center for Education Policy Research hosts the seminar.
