Val Guest's Hell is a City (1960) is a Hammer-produced police thriller starring Stanley Baker as Inspector Martineau, a Manchester detective hunting a murderer while his own marriage comes apart; John Crawford and Donald Pleasence co-star, and it climaxes on a rooftop above the city. The 35mm print comes from the British Film Institute, for Great Expectations, the Archive's version of Ehsan Khoshbakht's Locarno retrospective of postwar British cinema.
