Ganja & Hess (1973)
In Bill Gunn's 1973 film, Duane Jones (Night of the Living Dead) plays anthropologist Hess Green, stabbed with an ancient dagger by his assistant (Gunn) and left immortal and thirsting for blood. The New York Times called it “a sensual, scholarly, magic-realist exploration of black history and black desire.” MoMA's restoration of the original cut, for Queering the Screen, is followed by a discussion with guests from The Theater Offensive.
