The Zaleski Symposium — KOR at 50: The Origins and Legacy of Poland’s Anti-Authoritarian Revolution

· · 27 Kirkland St. · ·

The Zaleski Symposium marks fifty years since the founding of KOR, the Workers’ Defence Committee formed in 1976, whose dissidents helped prepare the ground for Solidarity. Three panels trace the path to the democratic breakthrough of 1989 and compare anti-authoritarian movements beyond Poland, with speakers including Jan Kubik of Rutgers, Mark Kramer of Harvard’s Project on Cold War Studies, and Elzbieta Matynia of the New School.
