NEC Opera: Hansel and Gretel

· · · ·

Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, staged by the Opera Department over four nights. Written in 1893, it puts Wagner-scale orchestration behind a fairy tale, and is the one opera in the standard repertory aimed as squarely at families as at opera-goers.
