Dybbuks and Beyond: Possession and Exorcism in Yiddish Folk Culture with Rokhl Kafrissen
Journalist and educator Rokhl Kafrissen traces the dybbuk, the wandering, sinful soul of Eastern European Jewish folklore that takes refuge in a living body, through Yiddish stories written over several centuries, from its little-known “birth” in the mid-16th century to its taking hold in the early 17th. The talk is a virtual presentation shown in the library, part of the Yiddish Book Center’s Between Two Worlds Public Libraries Program.
