Dave Malloy's electropop opera sets a slice of Tolstoy's War and Peace: young Natasha Rostova, waiting in Moscow for her fiancé to return from the war with Napoleon, falls under the spell of the roguish Anatole Kuragin, and Pierre Bezukhov, a family friend in an existential crisis, is left to pick up the pieces. Andrew Lease directs, with musical direction by Jess Modaff and movement by Jill Rogati.
